2017 Herstory at the museum of science and industry

Check out NU's and the MSI's HerStory event! This year's event was even bigger than last year! A huge thank you to all of the volunteers, sponsors, donators, and supporters!

Herstory at the museum of science and industry (MSI)

HerStory (website) is an outreach event that brings middle and high school females who are curious about science to the MSI to explore women in history. The event began with a "Famous Women in Science History" scavenger hunt around the museum, followed by a lunch. During the lunch, students chatted with women scientists about their experiences and motivations in science and higher education.

Special thanks to all our volunteers that helped made this event a success. We'd also like to thank our co-sponsors: SACNASJCLC and Museum of Science and Industry.

Tremendous year for stem research at niles west high school

This year we had another successful mentorship program at Niles West High School. Over 60 high school students were paired with Northwestern mentors and participated in independent research. Many of our high school students were successful at National Competitions, including Intel ISEF, as well as state science fair. See link below for our students award list.

Niles West Mentors Training Workshop

As our Niles West Mentors begin to develop relationships with their students, we want to share some of mentoring tips and best practices. We have organized a Mentor Training Seminar with Tracy Davis, the TGS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and an expert in mentorship. This training workshop will help mentors not only in this mentoring experience but potentially for all mentoring experiences in the future. We highly recommend all Niles West mentors attend!

Workshop details:

Thursday, October 8, 12-2p in TGS Commons

Successful Mentee Training Event

On Wednesday, September 30th, MORE@NilesWest held a mentee training workshop for high school students in our Niles West program. Tracy Davis, TGS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, led the students in engaging activities on how to get the most out of their mentoring experience. We hope to make this an annual workshop in the future.
